Advent Concert: Winter Journey
In the darkest period of the year we invite our audience into a world of longing and loneliness. Sunday 8 December baritone Magnus I. Kjelstad and pianist Christian Grøvlen presents Schubert’s Winterreise in Troldsalen.
Towards the end of his short life, Franz Schubert wrote ‘Winterreise’, to the text by the German poet Wilhelm Müller.
The songs will be performed in Norwegian, re-invented by the Norwegian author André Bjerke in 1976.
The poets tells the story of a young man searching for hope after being betrayed by his beloved. Through the 24 songs, we follow the wanderer and his thoughts and feelings in dialogue with nature, animals and his own heart. But still, Schubert’s musical form and the poetic text gives light to this dark theme:
Snart vil svale vinder stryke
over marken: Gresset gror,
isen brister, og den myke
sne vil smelte som ifjor
