In September 2018, Ryoma Takagi won the 1st prize and audience prize at The 16th Grieg International Competition. Born in 1992 in Japan, Ryoma Takagi began his musical training at the age of two, and went on to attend private lessons of Elena Ashkenazy, Hiroko Nakamura, before pursuing his piano studies with Michel Krist at the University of music and performing arts Vienna, and Boris Petrushansky at the Imola international piano academy. He also attended masterclass held by Paul Badura=Skoda, Arie Vardi, Andrzej Jasinski, Sergei Drensky, Dang Thai Son, Alexei Nasedkin, Dina Joffe, Stephen Hough, Vladimir Tropp and Seiji Ozawa. 

In addition to The International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition, Ryoma Takagi has won The 1st Japan Tchaikovsky Competition (2002), Neuhaus Festival in Moscow (2003), The 6th International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz (2004), The 19th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy (2015), The 38th Elena Rombro-Stepanow Klavierwettbewerb (2015), The 26th Roma International Piano Competition (2016), and Dr.Josef Dichler Wettbewerb (2018). 

Ryoma Takagi has performed at important venues in Japan, USA, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, England, Russia,Norway and Ukraine, including the following halls, Musikverein Golden Hall, Grieg Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall and Rachmaninoff Hall, Kremlin Palace, Ukraine Symphony Hall, Ukraine National Opera Theater, New York Steinway Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus, Schoenbrunn Palace, Gasteig Munich, Roma Tetro Valle, Suntory Hall, Yokohama Minatomirai Hall, Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Kioi Hall, etc. He has also performed with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Kiev National Philharmony, Yaroslavl Symphony Orchestra, Amadeus Nova Chamber Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, New Philharmony Orchestra Chiba, Septnis Chiba Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Summer Evening Recitals

Summer Evening Recitals with some of Norways finest musicians will be played every Sunday at 18:00, from June 9 to September 8.

The concerts takes place in "Troldsalen" - maybe the most beautiful chamber music hall in the world. Duration: Approximately 1,5 hours, including a 15 minute break / intermission.

You will also meet the pianist during his/her stay as "pianist of the week" at Troldhaugen, in the daily lunchtime concerts at 13:00. More information on the lunchtime concerts here
