12/6: KODE AND BIT20: SOUND, SILENCE, AND SPACE
12 June at 19.00 in Troldsalen:
KODE’s Composer in Residence Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi presents along with KODE and BIT20 a concert that explores sound, silence, and space.
Silence is often themed as the absence of noise, the peace of nature, or meditative tranquillity. In this concert, silence is related to something else: that which is indefinable, a source of contradictions and change, or even something threatening. But how does "silence" manifest itself in music?
The concert is curated by this year's Composer in Residence Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi, who has chosen some of her favourite music. Ahvenniemi presents works by composers who in various ways have made "silence" and "space" their domain.
The composer Morton Feldman (1926-1987), for example, had 'pianissimo' as his domain. He lived in the otherwise lively and busy city of New York, where artists competed with the latest concepts. Feldman created hours of music where one must hold one's breath and focus.
The program combines international composers - Morten Feldman, Salvatore Sciarrino and Beat Furrer - and Norwegian composers Therese Birkelund Ulvo, Sigurd Fischer Olsen and Ellen Lindqvist, in addition to Ahvenniemi's own music.
